iMac Early 2006
The first generation Intel Based iMac 17” Core Duo 1.8GHz (MA199LL) and 2.0GHz (MA200LL) use the same all-in-one enclosures as the previous release of the iMac G5 with iSight. This Core Duo processor has two independent processor cores that share 2MB of level 2 cache and a 667MHz system bus. Both models come standard with 512MB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and an ATI Radeon X1600 graphics acceleration with 128MB of GDDR2 RAM and built in iSight camera.
The 17” model features a 160 GB (7200RPM) Serial ATA hard drive and the 20” holds a 250GB (7200RPM) hard drive. A vertically mounted slot-loading 8X SuperDrive with 2.4X dual layer burn speed, three USB 2.0 ports, two Firewire 400 ports, AirPort Extreme (802.11g), Bluetooth 2.0 +, and Gigabit Ethernet come standard on both models.
iMac Mid 2006
On July 5, 2006 Apple released an education market only 17” model with a 1.83GHz Intel Core Duo processor that shares 2MB level 2 cache and a 667MHz system bus, 512MB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (max 2GB) and a 80GB 7200 Serial ATA hard drive. A slower Intel GMA 950 graphics processor with 64MB of DDR2 SDRAM and smaller hard drive are the only notable difference between this model and the Early 2006 release.
iMac Late 2006
The Late 2006 release of the 1.83GHz (MA710LL) model is similar to the Mid 2006 1.83GHz model with the differences being the Late 2006 uses an Intel Core 2 Duo processor instead of a Core Duo processor and a 160GB hard drive instead of an 80GB drive. Also released were the 17” 2.0GHz (MA590LL), 20” 2.16GHz (MA589LL), 24” 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 duo processors with 4MB shared level 2 cache and a 667MHz system bus. 1GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM came standard with all models(max 3GB).
The 17” housed a 160GB (7200RPM) Serial ATA hard drive while the 20” and 24” housed a 250GB (7200RPM) Serial ATA hard drive. All models feature a vertically mounted slot-loading DVD+R DL SuperDrive and built in iSight camera. The 17” and 20” use an ATI Radeon X1600 graphics acceleration with 128MB of GDDR3 memory and the 24” uses a NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT graphics acceleration with 128MB of GDDR2 memory.

iMac Mid-2007
On August 7, 2007 Apple released the 20” 2.0GHz (MA876LL), 2.4GHz (MA877LL) and 24” 2.4GHz (MA878LL) or 2.8GHz (Extreme edition) Intel Core 2 Duo Aluminum with 4MB shared level 2 cache, and a faster Santa Rosa 800MHz system bus. Both 20” models and the 24” 2.4GHz model come with a standard 1GB of 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM (max 4GB). The 24” 2.8GHz models come standard with 2GB RAM (max 4GB).
Core 2 Duo Mobile
The 20” 2.0GHz models come standard with an ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT graphics acceleration with 128MB of GDDR3 memory while the 20” 2.4 and both 24” models use an ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO graphics acceleration with 256MB of GDDR3 memory. Connectivity consists of three USB 2.0 ports, one Firewire 400 port, one Firewire 800, AirPort Extreme and Gigabit Ethernet, and mini-DVI that supports one external display. The new, sleek aluminum chasis includes an ultra-thin aluminum Apple Keyboard. Standard storage for the 20” 2.0 GHz is a 250GB (7200RPM) hard drive, while the 20” and 24” 2.4GHz models use a 320GB 7200RPM drive and 24” 2.8GHz 500GB 7200RPM drive.

iMac Early 2008
In April 2008, Apple released the iMac in the following configurations: 20” 2.4GHz (MB323LL/A) or 2.66GHz (MB324LL/A) 24” 2.8GHz (MB325LL/A) or 3.06GHz (N/A) Intel Core 2 Duo “Penryn” processor with 6MB shared level 2 cache and a 1066MHz system bus. All models came standard with 2GB of 800MHz of DDR2 (max 4GB) with the exception of the 20” 2.4GHz model which came with 1GB (max 4GB).
This release is externally the same as the Mid-2007 release, however internally, the Penryn processor uses a faster and more energy efficient 45nm processor compared to the 65nm Merom processors. Storage for the 20” 2.4 GHz is a 250GB (7200RPM) hard drive while the 20” 2.66GHz and 24” 2.8GHz model use a 320GB (7200RPM) drive and the 24” 3.06GHz use a 500GB (7200RPM) hard drive. These models also now support Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR standard.

iMac Early 2009
The most recent release of the iMac are available in the following configurations: 20” 2.66GHz (MB417LL/A) or 24” 2.66GHz (MB418LL/A), 2.93GHz (MB419LL/A), or 3.06GHz (MB420LL/A) Intel Core 2 Duo processors with 6MB shared level 2 cache and a 1066MHz system bus. Graphics processors on the 20” 2.66GHz and 24” 2.66GHz models are NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256MB of memory. The 24” 2.93 GHz sports a NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 256MB dedicated GDDR3 memory, and the 24” 3.06GHz features a NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 with 512MB dedicated GDDR3 memory.
All models come standard with 4GB of faster 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM (max 8GB) with the exception of the 20” 2.66GHz model that comes standard with 2GB (max 8GB). Connectivity consists of one Firewire 800, four USB 2.0 ports, AirPort Extreme, Gigabit Ethernet, and a Mini DisplayPort that supports an external display. The Firewire 400 port was not included in the model.
Core 2 Duo Mac
Storage for the 20” 2.66GHz model consists of a 320GB (7200RPM) hard drive, while the 24” 2.66GHz and 2.93GHz models sport a 640GB (7200RPM) drive, and the 24” 3.06GHz model has an massive 1TB (7200RPM) hard drive.
