This machine is not what I expected at all. I thought this was going to be an easy switch from walking out in the rain and cold for the winter. No, not at all, with this machine I have had really great workouts. Each program is different, some easier than others, which I started at a more aggressive program thinking that I was in shape, and had to go down to the easier programs just to hang in there. Now building the strength and endurance I need, I can advance to whichever level I chose for that day. The resistances are great too. The only part I do not feel suits me is that in the programs, you can go as hard and as fast as you want for a harder workup, but it shows you what speed to be going and it is super slow sometimes, like slow motion. I feel that sometimes these should be followed for warm up and warm down, but sometimes a little unnecessary. Overall an excellent machine for the motivated and for those that want the comfort of an indoor workout.

Our FreeStride Trainers completely reinvent the elliptical by providing you with three machines' motions in one: treadmill, stepper, and traditional elliptical. Our Front Drive and Rear Drive Series ellipticals provide you with all the low-impact benefits of the elliptical complete with a connected interactive personal training experience.

NordicTrack makes several different elliptical trainer models. Each model has some basic parts that require maintenance and repair. These are the pulse sensor, which tracks your heart rate; the console, which displays information such as distance, time and speed; the pedals, which move as you run; the drive belt, which is attached to the pedals; and the battery pack, which provides the electricity to run the machine. Before you begin to troubleshoot and repair your elliptical, be sure to refer to the user manual and make sure you understand each part of the machine. If you still are having trouble after performing basic repairs, refer to your warranty information or call customer service.

Pulse Sensor

Step 1

Peel off the plastic. Often, the pulse sensor does not work because there are thin pieces of plastic left on the handles after the elliptical arrives. Once they are off, the pulse sensor can feel your heartbeat.

Step 2

Clean the handles with a soft cloth. Be sure not to use alcohol, abrasives or chemicals on the handles.

Step 3

Position your hands so your palms are touching the upper contacts and your fingers are touching the lower contacts of the sensor. If you do the opposite, it will not take an accurate heart rate. Hold your hands on the sensor for at least 15 seconds.

Console

Step 1

Charge the battery pack by pedaling the elliptical for several minutes. Hold down the 'CLEAR' button and the 'ENTER' button at the same time until the console goes into maintenance mode.

Step 2

Press the 'ENTER' button to see different options for the console. Choose the different options necessary.

Step 3

Exit maintenance mode by holding down the 'CLEAR' and 'ENTER' buttons for a few seconds.

Pedals Squeak and Stick

Step 1

Loosen screws on the side shield using the Phillips-head screwdriver. The side shield is on either side of the pedals.

Step 2

Move the side shield slightly until it no longer touches the pedals. Use the screwdriver to tighten the screws.

Step 3

Wipe down the pedals, wheels, track and side shield with a clean cloth. Put a light coat of silicone-based lubricant on the wheels and the track.

Tightening and Loosening the Drive Belt

Step 1

Remove the screws from the left and right side shields with the screwdriver and pivot the side shields away from the elliptical. Remove the pedal disks. These are on the outside of the pedals and are similar to hubcaps.

Step 2

Loosen the cap screws and tighten the generator tension bolt with the Allen wrench. Tighten it until the drive belt -- inside the wheels of the pedals -- is no longer loose. If it is too tight, loosen the generator tension bolt as needed.

Step 3

Retighten the cap screws and replace the side shields. Screw on the side shields using the screwdriver.

Battery Pack Replacement

Step 1

Remove the screws from the left side shield using the screwdriver. Pivot the side shield away from the elliptical.

Step 2

Disconnect the lower battery wire from the battery wire. The battery is located under the side shield and behind the wheel. Cut the wire ties with the wire cutter and discard the battery pack.

Step 3

Put in the new battery pack. Attach the battery wire to the lower battery wire.

Step 4

Swing the side shield back and screw it in using the screwdriver.
