OMG - I'm on the phone with Verizon trying to make a minor modification in our FiOS service. Their reps are being RELENTLESS pushing their awful BHR-4/G1100 Router!

It truly boggles the mind how Verizon is thus far getting away with what seems like a flagrant skirting of Net Neutrality regulations. Net Neutrality prevents Internet Service Providers from blocking or throttling specific services (most notably competitors' offerings and Web providers like Netflix who don't want to pay extra big bucks to allow full speed on their data feeds). But the law doesn't prevent ISP's from offering routers that hinder those competing services. Sadly, Verizon's BHR-4/G1100 router does just that - by hindering VoIP telecom services (including our own ACG offerings) that offer alternatives to pricey Verizon products. So Verizon's Internet network doesn't hinder anything (which would be illegal); they let their router do it for them (which somehow isn't being questioned - yet)!! Sneaky, no?

If you have FiOS with this router and you are having problems with your VoIP phone, well, now you know the cause. Time for another router. Any router will work with FiOS - you don't need theirs, except that it is through their router that your TV set top box displays program guides, widgets and on-demand services. If you need or want those features, simply connect their G1100 router to one of the ports on your new, better router (as if it were another device on your network).

If you have FiOS with the older red and black MI424 router, and they try to push the new BHR-4/G1100 on you, REFUSE IT. Your MI424 is one of the best routers ever - keep it. If you really need 5gHz WiFi (most don't unless you are a serious gamer) then see the paragraph above.

Bottom line - Verizon needs to get the message that they can't pull this on the public. And if anyone tells you it would be good to get rid of Net Neutrality rules (usually extreme right-wingers take this position), you just rub their nose in a Verizon BHR-4/G1100 router!
